The Junior Belfry Major

It was a proud moment for the Junior Section at High Legh Park Golf Club when on Sunday 8.9.19 we held our inaugural major competition, The Junior Belfry Trophy, kindly donated by Charles Jesudason, even the weather was kind to us!

Due to the increase in Junior members obtaining a Congu handicap, this is the first time in a long time that we have been able to hold such an event.

The competitors received a welcome gift on registering and most of them had engaged the services of a caddie! Not quite sure who was more nervous but the competitors conducted themselves very professionally and kept their caddies under control!

Despite several societies on the course, the Juniors received the respect they deserved and were let through by a number of groups, as it was clear that they were playing well.

Our Club Captain, Brian Allatt, was in attendance to welcome the competitors and acted as starter, he also presented the prizes immediately after the competition in the main Clubhouse where refreshments were available. The actual trophy will be presented at the End of Season prize giving on the 28th September.

The results were as follows:

1st place (card play off) - Sam Read (H'cap 15) (41 points)

(Receiving a £25 AG voucher and a sleeve of golf balls)

2nd place (card play off) - Jonah Ashworth (H'cap 29) (41 points)

(Receiving a £15 AG voucher and a sleeve of golf balls)

Nearest the Pin was won by Ben Calvin (H'cap 18)

(Receiving a sleeve of balls and a golf towel)

'Captain's Pick' - a scorecard was selected at random by the Captain, which excluded the winners, and Ben Keeley won a sleeve of balls.

Special Mentions

Jonah Ashworth was only awarded a handicap the week before the competition.

Tom Irvine (H'cap 20) had 22 points on the front nine.

Ben Keeley had run a 1.5K race on the morning prior to the competition and it was his first ever 18 holes!! Respect!

Congratulations and thanks to all who entered and contributed on the day (including the Daddy Caddies!) you should be very proud of yourselves, as we all are of you!
